Every two weeks, Euralis Seeds will publish a newsletter, in partnership with Agritel, on trends and the agricultural market.

Lets’ see, how market situation has evolved since last two weeks.

Oilseed complex:

There is continuing demand for oilseeds – oil, seed and meals. Even though northern hemisphere crops are available, there does not seem to be enough to meet Asian consumption, especially as Black Sea sunflower production and Malaysia’s palm production are disappointing. The weather market is still present in South America. The recent rainfall was not enough to reassure traders about the sowings or emergence.

The only cloud on the horizon is the spread of Covid-19 which is forcing countries to restrict movement, which in turn is limiting the demand for crude oil and biodiesel.

Cereals complex:

The market is still subject to significant volatility given the various news items: lockdown in Europe, US elections, vaccine results etc. Yet the fundamentals are still buoyant: there is demand on the market given the ongoing drought conditions in South America. The arrival of Australia’s crop, however, could change the game to some extent. With regard to maize, the election of Joe Biden could change US policy which could affect both the country’s ethanol production and exports to China if the trade agreement is renegotiated.
