ODA Newsletter : market insights & trends #167

December 31, 2018

Every two weeks, Euralis Seeds will publish a newsletter, in partnership with Offre et Demande Agricole, on trends and the agricultural market.

Lets’ see, how market situation has evolved since last the week.

Oilseeds Complex:

Soybean prices in Chicago should continue to depend on the evolution of USA-China relations and, in particular, China’s return to the market for US soybeans. Best case scenario: a price rebound should be limited by favourable South American weather conditions and the arrival of the Brazilian harvest in the coming weeks.

In oils, the declining outlook for Southeast Asian palm inventories and low export supplies of Brazilian and US soybean oil should support oils markets since demand should revive, especially in India.

Grains Complex:

Higher Russian wheat prices are bringing competitors along in their wake. The USA should gradually take over from Russian exports, which should continue to support prices. Ahead of the year-end holiday break, we can expect volatility as the week closes due to the meeting between the Russian government and exporters.

Maize prices are rising among exporters as harvest pressure ends and steady export demand fades. In Europe, maize prices should follow the wheat market. Strong European maize imports are limiting gains.
