Sowing time is fast approaching. This is an opportunity to remember that much of the potential is already played since the seed drill leaves the plot. A good variety, sown at the right time in well-prepared soil and with good techniques – that is the secret of a promising start to the season.
Thanks to the Euralis Profiling System (EPS) approach, Euralis directs farmers to the varieties most suited to their situation and production objectives. After a quick and personalized diagnosis, this tool offers farmers personalized advice allowing them to select the hybrids best adapted to their plots.
Once the right variety is selected, it is essential to remember the good sowing gestures. Because correct implementation is one of the key steps in optimizing yields. First of all, find below a small reminder of the points of vigilance and control to perform on the planter before the sowing period.
“Before starting the sowing campaign, it is particularly important to check four points on a pneumatic precision planter: drive, vacuum, distribution and planting. These four elements will all have an impact on the quality of sowing, particularly as regards respect for the population, the regularity of the sowing depth and placement.
At the drive level, it is important to check the tire pressure and the condition of the chains. Indeed, tire pressure has a direct effect on seeds. It is estimated that underinflation of 100 grams increases seedling density by 1000 seeds per hectare and vice versa. It is therefore important to comply with tire inflation recommendations. Likewise, seized chains result in irregular training of the distribution and thus a bad placement of the seeds.
For vacuum, be sure to check the tension and condition of the turbine belt and make sure that the hoses connecting the turbine to the sowing units are not cracked or drilled. Indeed, a good vacuum makes it possible to stick the seeds well on the discs avoiding that they leave at the least movement.
On the distribution side, checking the general condition, cleanliness and wear of the discs is important to ensure good seed selection. Adjustment of the seed scraper to avoid duplications and gaps must be controlled and adapted to each seed.
Finally, it is important to control the planting. This is to control the wear of the ploughshare on a planter and the wear of the double discs and the tip on a disc drill. Indeed, these elements are there to obtain a groove having a regular depth and shape like “V” allowing seeds to be blocked at the bottom of the groove and in contact with the earth.
Once all these checks are done, there will remain some field operations. be careful to respect the PTO regime which will have the same effects as a relaxed belt and to properly adjust the planter. Finally, remember that it is essential to check in the field the actual sowing density as well as the sowing quality and to adapt the working speed to the field conditions: the sowing quality has a direct impact on the productivity! ” explains Florian Crochet, Sales and Training Manager within Monosem.
“Focused on quality, the industrial process of Euralis is adjusted according to species, their genetic particularities, requests for treatment and specific packaging. All the batches of seeds produced are fully traceable and undergo more than 12 checks from field production to the bag delivered to the customer, “says Julie Mounier, Quality Control Manager at Euralis.
Euralis Seeds makes seed quality a top priority for ensuring customer satisfaction.
Euralis and Monosem are constantly innovating to meet the needs of tomorrow for farmers.
