CHOOSING THE RIGHT CORN HYBRID
EURALIS PROFILING SYSTEM: ATTENTIVE AND INVENTIVE SYSTEM FOR FARMERS
For corn crop the main concern of the farmers is to find a variety that will fully value the real potential of his parcel. What is the hybrid that can give the best results in limited conditions? What is the best variety to maximize the yield in a favorable environment? Moreover, for silage in order to make a right choice to feed his cattle, farmer has to consider corn composition: silage with high starch level to complement grass-based ration with energy, or silage with important fiber content to secure ration with acidogenic risks.
After qualification of farmer’s environment, Euralis Profiling System for corn is aimed to help him choosing the hybrid able to answer his needs. It is also destined to provide Euralis research with strategic axes of development based on clients’ needs and to continue the creation of inventive solutions for farmers.
Euralis Profiling System goes beyond classic criteria of selection which are performance, earliness, nutritional value, diseases and lodging tolerances.
System studies all products under new diverse angles to understand them and to bring a right recommendation to the farmers.
ADAPTED SOLUTIONS TO VALUE PARCEL POTENTIAL
Yield Profile studies behavior of the hybrid depending on the field potential. The objective is to find out the most adapted hybrid in particular conditions of the farmer’s field. The results are collected all over Europe during several years to test hybrids in diverse agronomical situations. Euralis analysts evaluate performances of each hybrid compared to the average of all hybrids tested in the same conditions (hybrids Euralis and competitors with same earliness). They explain the behavior of the hybrid depending to the class of field potential: low, medium, high.
Water supply, nutriments input, diseases stress, climatic changes, etc., all those factors have a possible influence on field potential. In Yield Profile score of the hybrid performance is marked in color to show if product is adapted to the specific potential conditions or not.
ADAPTED SOLUTIONS TO BALANCE FEED RATION
Nutri Profile studies the degradation of dry matter by In Sacco method: samples of silage corn are put directly into the rumen of fistulated cows. For Euralis hybrids the In-sacco study is done by French agricultural institutes Arvalis and INRA. The dynamic of starch and fiber degradation are not the same. Dry matter coming from leaves and stalk offers a slow digestibility and releases energy later if compare with grain, where dry matter is immediately assimilated by the animal. With Nutri profile farmer define the right variety fitting with the needs of the cattle feeding ration: slow digestion to secure the ration based on grains or fast digestion to bring quick energy for animals with the ration based on grasses.
